The normal onion, also known as the bulb onion or common onion, is a versatile and widely used vegetable in cooking. It has a papery outer skin and multiple layers of fleshy, white, or yellowish flesh inside. Onions have a pungent flavour when raw but become sweet and caramelised when cooked. They are used in a variety of dishes to add flavour, aroma and texture. Onions are also rich in nutrients like vitamins C and B6, potassium and fibre.
